A Little Exercise Goes A Long Way For Obesity Overweight

Posted on February 22nd, 2010.

A little exercise goes a long way toward helping severely obese individuals improve their quality of life and complete important daily tasks, according to researchers at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center in a study involving obesity overweight participants.

  • In a pre-program assessment where patients reported, on average, just under one hour of exercise per week, individuals who were more active reported better overall-quality of life. They also reported improvements in their ability to perform daily tasks as measured on a physical functioning scale. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081005203103.htm

This article further states that quality of life improvements were higher during daily basic tasks. Simple movements such as getting up from chairs, climbing up and down stairs, getting dressed and undressed and feeling physically less out of breath were reported. The subjects were not doing increased levels of activity but yet they were still feeling better with just one hour of exercise a week.

This is important for obesity overweight individuals to know. Dr Martin Binks concurs no amount of exercise is to little to have an impact. Exercise is beneficial no matter what your BMI or weight is. That is something we have all been hearing for years. Now is proven true for every body! The average obesity overweight is around 100 pounds in his study. He says many of the subjects feel defeated and because they have trouble moving around, they believe ‘why bother’. This study shows without a doubt the value of even minute exercise can and does make a difference! No matter how much extra weight you carry it makes a difference and increases the quality of life. It is my desire that this news inspires even the most die-hard obesity overweight challenged, to not give up and to persevere. Even a little physical activity has benefits.

It only takes one step to begin the journey. Corny as it sounds, it is true nonetheless.
