Exercise For Weight Loss- Obese Women More Savey Than Normal Weight Women
Surprisingly, people struggling with obesity often understate how many calories they are actually consuming thus hindering weight loss efforts. One would think that these same people would trivialize the amount of exercise they’re doing, yes?
Not necessarily true, say some Temple University researchers. In a study presented at The Obesity Society’s annual meeting, lead author Tracy Oliver, MEd, RD, LDN, a Lead Health Services Specialist at Temple’s Center for Obesity Research and Education, found that obese women reported their activity levels most accurately, when compared to overweight and normal weight women. This may be surprising to some but shouldn’t be. Those who know the serious health implication of obesity (premature death, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and even some cancers ) often know the benefits of exercise for weight loss. And they very well may know how much dedication and effort is involved!

Mr. Oliver compared what women said their amount of activity was vs. the actual amount as measured on a accelerometer. An accelerometer is a device that measures movement and acceleration over a time period of a year. For the first and second measurement, the obese women reported more accurately the amount of physical activity they did. By the end of the 12 month study, all three groups (normal weight and overweight women) were proclaiming their activity levels correctly. Although Mr. Oliver believes this is not an easy task with participation and education, it can be learned. In order to know what exercise for weight loss has the most effect for your body type and health benefits, it is good to know the truth of what you are doing. This study merely enhances the belief in order to change, you must know the facts. Exercise for weight loss takes dedication and perseverence as well as a willingness to be honest with oneself.
