What is ‘good for the goose is good for the gander’ but not for the kids! Diet foods and diet drinks for kids may strongly link children and obesity.

Researchers from the University of Alberta assert that animals learn to connect the taste of food with the amount of caloric energy it provides, and children who consume low-calorie versions of foods that are normally high in calories may develop altered connections between taste and calorie content. At an early age, children learning to overeat as they grow up. What can be done for children and obesity?
Says Dr. David Pierce, ‘based on what we’ve learned, it is better for children to eat healthy, well-balanced diets with sufficient calories for their daily activities rather than low-calorie snacks or meals.’ These researchers did a series of elaborate experiments that proved substituting low-calorie versions of foods and drinks in a sample of young rats, led to overeating. This included rats that were lean as well as ones that were considered genetically obese. Adolescent rats did not overeat.
He believes the use of diet food and drinks from an early age into adulthood may very well induce overeating and gradual weight gain through the taste conditioning process. “One thing is clear at this point,” Pierce says, “our research has shown that young animals can be made to overeat when low-calorie foods and drinks are given to them on a daily basis, and this subverts their bodies’ energy-balance system.” What can we do? Go back to the old fashioned ways of keeping children and obesity separate - well-thought out nutritional sound meals and plenty of regular exercise. Diet foods, in my opinion, have multiple negative effects on youngsters whose bodies are still forming. There are still so many ways we do not know how children and obesity affects are intertwined.
Play it smart and do the right thing. Feed your children well as children, not as mini-adults.
